Steven Barbosa
Background
He possesses a solid background working with EU institutions for almost 20 years. Steven Barbosa is an experienced policy professional with a strong background in EU affairs, advocacy, and international relations. Currently serving as Secretary General at IPIFF (International Platform of Insects for Food and Feed), he has over a decade of experience in shaping EU policies. In previous positions he has worked within and towards EU institutions such as European Parliament, Council of the EU and European Commission.
Responsibilities
Steven Barbosa as IPIFF Secretary-General is responsible for the overall management, strategic direction, and representation of the organization. His primary functions include:
Governance
Providing leadership to the organization’s governing bodies (Working Group & Knowledge Platforms), ensuring effective governance, and implementing decisions made by the General Assembly and the Board.
Strategic Planning
Developing and executing strategic plans aligned with the organization’s objectives, advocating for the sector, and fostering collaboration with EU institutions and key EU-level stakeholders. Furthermore, he ensures the coordination and knowledge-sharing between the different types of members (insect producers, academic members) to promote science-based policies on behalf of the sector.
Representation and Advocacy
Acting as the official representative of the organization towards the EU institutions, government agencies, industry stakeholders, and international forums to promote the organization’s interests and position.
Policy Development and Coordination
Facilitating the development of sector-specific policies, monitoring regulatory developments within the EU, and coordinating advocacy efforts among members to influence legislation and policy decisions.
