Christophe Derrien – Secretary-General

Christophe Derrien is amongst Brussels’ public affairs veterans. With over 15  years’ experience in agrifood, Christophe leads the IPIFF Secretariat. 

Christophe played a leading role in the establishment of IPIFF as an EU umbrella organisation back in 2015. He is in charge of coordinating the outreach activities of the organisation, regulatory developments (e.g. animal feed, frass, new substrates), as well as the general management of the Secretariat and membership. 

Furthermore, Christophe coordinates the activities of several internal working fora (e.g. IPIFF Working Group on ‘Feed Hygiene & Animal Nutrition’ and IPIFF Knowledge Platform on ‘‘new feeding substrates’).  

Christophe is bilingual in French and English. He also speaks Spanish and some Dutch.

Steven Barbosa – Deputy Secretary General

Steven Barbosa is IPIFF’s Deputy-Secretary General. He possesses a solid background working with EU institutions for over 15 years.

Steven shares responsibilities with the IPIFF Secretary-General on the overall advocacy strategy and implementation, leading IPIFF’s outreach activities toward the EU Parliament or the Council. Steven Barbosa coordinates the “InnovProtein EU coalition” and oversees the policy monitoring and advocacy activities under the “Farm to Fork Strategy”. 

Under his responsibility also lies the Food and Novel Food policy, as well as the coordination of the IPIFF Working Group on “Food Safety & Consumer Information”. IPIFF’s Deputy Secretary-General represents our organisation in different EU platforms such as DG SANTE Advisory Groups, DG AGRI Civil Dialogue Groups, or the Aquaculture Advisory Council. Furthermore, Steven Barbosa coordinates together with Christophe Derrien IPIFF’s participation and involvement in EU-funded projects and consortiums. 

Steven speaks English, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Eduard Tsvetanov – Communications and PR Manager

Eduard Tsvetanov is a communications and public affairs professional with over 10 years’ experience. 

Eduard oversees IPIFF’s communications, media and PR activities in Brussels and across member states. A staunch supporter of media freedom, Eduard believes in 2-line media pitches, press materials under embargo, and in addressing tough questions head-on. 

In addition to the comms antics, Eduard is also directly involved in advocacy work with the European Parliament and the European Commission. He also chairs the Knowledge Platform on Communication bringing together comms experts from around the globe. 

Eduard was raised speaking English and Bulgarian. He also speaks Russian, and is currently learning French.

Zeynep Sinangil – Scientific Advisor

Zeynep Sinangil is a dedicated food engineer with a comprehensive background in food sciences and related legislation.

Throughout her academic career in food engineering, she has acquired extensive expertise through active participation in numerous conferences and workshops. During her studies, she concentrated on novel technologies and novel foods, cultivating a profound interest in the area of insects.

Zeynep is keen to translate her theoretical knowledge into practical applications. In her current role, she assists in coordinating activities for various Knowledge Platforms, including those focused on ‘frass’, ‘new feeding substrates’, ‘LCA’, and research activities. Additionally, she supports outreach activities directed towards EU policymakers on topics related to these Knowledge Platforms, which encompasses the preparation of presentations and meeting documents.

Zeynep is a native speaker of both English and Turkish, is proficient in French, and is currently advancing her skills in Italian.
